THE CONTEXT
Environmental issues

OVEREXPLOITATION OF RESOURCES
The Earth Overshoot Day keeps moving up each year (November 4 in 1980, September 23 in 2008, July 29 in 2021).
The quantity of natural resources extracted each year has nearly doubled since 1980, and these resources are financially perceived as an available stock that does not need to be regenerated.

BIODIVERSITY COLLAPSE
Collapse of life due to the expansion of human-modified environments, with agriculture and livestock being the primary cause.
68% of vertebrate populations have disappeared in the last 40 years (a decline 100 to 1000 times greater than that observed during geological times)*.

CLIMATE CHANGE
The IPCC confirms: humanity is warming the atmosphere, and every additional fraction of a degree worsens the situation. Every degree matters*.
To end climate disruption, at least carbon neutrality must be achieved.
A rapid and drastic reduction in GHGs can stabilize the climate.

THE IMPACT OF FINANCE
$295 billion have been invested in hydrocarbons by French banks since 2016.*
The majority of Green Bonds are not aligned with a 2°C scenario, according to the Climate Bond Initiative.
The Sustainable and Solidarity Development passbook is composed of only 30% truly sustainable financial products.**

FINANCE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY
And it has the means to do it!
The finance sector must be part of the solution. Many activities and sectors need to be financed to support the transition of the 'real' economy: sustainable agriculture, thermal renovation of buildings, decarbonized transport, protection of marine and terrestrial biodiversity, circular economy, water treatment, renewable energies...
With re.boot, we aim to create a leading association dedicated to democratize sustainable finance among students and providing the tools to engage professionally through a training bootcamp, expert interventions, and a student community.
